Archival Interventions

An archive is a gathering of historical records, documents and objects related to the same subject.
You can find archives in many different places such as:
  • Museums
  • Memory Boxes
  • Galleries
  • Libraries
  • Internet searches
  • Photo Albums

You can also find many different types of archives, containing things such as:
  • Photographs
  • Historical Records
  • Textiles
  • Painting
  • Videos
  • Collections

Artists and practitioners often use archives for research, inspiration and to respond to in their own projects. Many people often keep their own archive without even realizing, this may sometimes class you as a hoarder.
As a practitioner I also keep many of my own personal and professional archives:
  • Scrapbooks of memories
  • Ribbons, buttons and other bits and bobs I find
  • Interesting materials
  • Collections of sketchbooks showing how my work has developed
  • Any random information I have researched and find interesting
  • Tickets from places I have visited
  • Textile sampling
