Innovations in Giving

A gift is something you give to someone because you want to, not because you have to.
We give and receive constantly in our daily lives without even noticing. Here are a few examples:
  • Saying please and thank you
  • Holding the door open for someone
  • Complimenting people
  • Talking to someone lonely
  • Cheering someone up
  • Giving Advice
  • Presents
  • Helping people with heavy bags
  • Giving to the homeless
  • Washing someone else’s pots
  • Cooking dinner for someone
  • Volunteering
  • Giving money to charities

I have come across many charities and non-profit organizations. On that I have been involved in with the university is The Sleeping Bag Project. This organization is about recovering old tents, sleeping bags, etc from places like Leeds Fest once everyone has left. Whatever found is then washed and dried before adding a heart warming personal touch through textiles, but still being weary of the people and circumstances it will come across. These tents and sleeping bags are then given to people in homeless shelters.
Here are a few other charities and non profit organizations:
  • Nesta
  • Just Giving
  • Blood Bag Project
  • UNICEF
  • Food Cycle
  • National Trust
