As the year 7, 8 and 9 classes had rotated again, this meant there had been a long period of time with no practical lessons as the students were busy with the research and design part of their projects. Due to this I found myself bored a lot and just trying searching for jobs to do, so it was at this point I started my own mini project to update and redecorate the display board in the IT room with helpful research related to the new curriculum. I really enjoyed this part of my job as I could work to my own initiative and plan around the classes I would help out in.
As the new curriculum requires students to relate their work to other cultures, I decided to research and create a display board showing the many different ways design technology is used around the world. To narrow down my search, I decided to pick 4 very different countries, Mexico, China, South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
- My research of Mexico gave a celebration vibe and the idea that their designs are very bright with florals
- Chinese culture seems to be all about luck and tradition, so the main colours in their designs seemed to be red, gold and blue
- Saudi Arabia still has quite a traditional culture, which is complete opposite to their designs and architecture, which are quite modern and elegant
- My research of South Africa shows that their art and designs has very bold and bright colours made into geometric shapes
I then thought it would be a good idea to add a world map to the centre of the board and point out the different countries that have been researched to show that this is research from all around the world.
